Industry

The industrial production takes leading position in the economy of the city. The main industries of the city are oil refinery, food, electric power, machinery construction, petrochemical and chemical industry. The city produces high ratio of the total Russian output of synthetic phenol, benzene, motor units and cultivators, synthetic rubber, as well as canned milk and ice-cream. In Siberian Federal Region Omsk has leading positions in production of synthetic rubber, tires and tractor drills. The output of Omsk producers is marketable in Russia and in other countries. High quality of Omsk goods is confirmed by rewards of international and Russian competitions.

Construction

City-planning strategy is defined by the General layout of the city of Omsk till the year 2025. This and some other documents are to support the steady development of urban territories and to attract the investments.

A capacity of Omsk building complex makes it possible to provide about 1 mln. sq. m of residential and nonresidential buildings.

Comfort housing facilities creation is one of the priority guidelines of the city development. The total amount of housing facilities of Omsk is 25.3 mln. sq. m, index of housing conditions provision is 22.4 sq.m per capita.

Transport

Omsk is a big transport hub in which aviation, river, railway, motor and pipeline transport ways cross.

Both branches of Trans-Siberian railway pass through the city, which also serves as a major junction for the regional highway network.

River port facilities handle both passengers and freight, giving the city access to the extensive navigable waterways of the Irtysh and Ob rivers.

Omsk Tsentralny Airport offers domestic and international connections, making the city an important aviation hub for Siberia and Russian Far East.

Plan of measures aimed at the development of highway transportation network “City roads for the period up to the year 2016” was approved. It is aimed more than 35 billion rubles at the realization of this Plan. The total stretch of roads, streets and quay of the city is 1.5 thousand km. Public transport conveys about 600 thousand passengers a day.

The underground is being actively constructed.

Trade

Modern sphere of consumers’ market of goods and services includes 2055 enterprises of retail trade, 146 enterprises of wholesale trade, 353 restaurants and cafes, 45 markets, 1590 enterprises of consumer service. Total retail trade turnover amounts 157.1 billion rubles.
